Film Roofterrace
Exhibition- and interaction design

Customer:     The Danish Film Institute
Product:    800 sqm outdoor exhibition
Purpose:   Information about Danish film og it’s development

In the summer of 2024, the Danish Film Institute has opened “Filmtaget” – a roof terrace where the public can not only visit an open air cinema and café, but also experience a sensual film exhibition about Danish cinema. From the start in 2020, No Parking was given the task of advising on the exhibition task, and was then engaged to create exhibition design as well as digital and interactive experiences.

From the start, the filming has been very popular with both Copenhageners and tourists. The exhibition is structured in thematic pavilions, and gives an insight into the development of Danish film from the early stages and the great days of the silent film – up through the successes of the time such as folk comedies, dogma films and documentaries. You can see examples of films and the actors of the time, and several places where there are fun and insightful interactive installations.

For example, you can spin a zoetrope and experience the basic principle of film. Elsewhere, you can add your own sound to a silent movie. Or sit in a copy of Tivoli’s balloon swing, and hear the title melody from the film “In love with Copenhagen”. In the exhibition’s children’s area, you can explore the universe and characters via turntables, or test your knowledge of the film’s structure in a quiz. At the other end of the exhibition, you can try to select or deselect the various rules on the dogma films, via tactile Barkelite buttons, and see how the same film can completely change its character.
